As the school children get ready to go back to school I’d like us to focus on those children who won’t enter the school system for another 1-5 years! In particular those children who don’t have all the gifts of time and family available to help them prepare for life’s journey.
Rotary International’s service partnership with The Dollywood Foundation’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library provides opportunities to collaborate in support of basic education by fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning from an early age. Through this partnership, children receive access to age-appropriate reading materials to help establish a strong educational foundation early in life.
Crown Point Rotary joined in on this effort a year and a half ago. With Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library we have committed to providing a book a month for up to 300 children in our community for the next 5 years. We are only able to do this because of our partnership with Rotary District 6540, Crown Point Community Foundation, and you!
While 300 children is quite a few, there are over 750 families within our own community that are in need! The need is obviously bigger than our club can take on alone. We are launching an internal initiative this month and our goal is to get 100% participation from our members.
After our internal initiative, with the help of Crown Point Community Schools Corp, we will be rolling the initiative out to the community. The ultimate goal is to set up an Endowment for the community to provide books to all pre-school children in need for years to come.
A fund has been established with the Crown Point Community Foundation, the Crown Point Rotary Foundation Fund, all donations to this fund will be tax deductible.

Help us celebrate the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation! On Friday, September 30, 2016, our district will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation in The Crystal Ballroom of The Lerner Center, located at 410 S. Main Street in Elkhart, IN. Our keynote speaker is the entertaining Past Rotary International President Richard King. Enjoy an evening of fine dining, fun, and raising money. Our ambitious goal is to raise $100,000 so Rotary can continue "doing good in the world"! The Foundation was started 100 years ago at the Kansas City Convention with $26.50. It was the change leftover from the gift purchased for the outgoing RI President, Arch Klumph. We're going to have fun with that amount, using it for various pricings, like the cost of the dinner, which is $126.50. $66.26 of that cost will count as your contribution to The Foundation from this event. Instead of the usual Silent Auction, we will have a friendly competition to "Fund the Cause" for District Governor Ranjan Kini's signature project, for Polio Plus, and for the Annual Fund. So the money you would normally spend on a silent auction item now can be used toward this. There will be a LIVE auction however, so think big. Social Hour: 6:00 pm (EDT) Dinner and program 7:00 pm (EDT) Business Attire Register online now or wait for your wait for your invitation to arrive in the mail later this month. To register now, click here. We are pleased to announce that The Hilton Garden Inn - Elkhart, located at 3401 Plaza Court, is partnering with the 100th Celebration Rotary Foundation Dinner by providing a block of rooms at the special Rotary room rate of $109.00 plus tax, per agreement with the hotel. You are responsible to make your own room reservation by calling (844) 233-3031 in advance.

Mommy's Haven welcomes women, ages 18 and over, who are pregnant and have nowhere to turn. We offer single pregnant women, with no means of support, the opportunity to choose life for their unborn baby. God has called us to respond to this need by providing a safe, free-of-charge, home to all women who are feeling helpless and hopeless while facing an unplanned pregnancy. We never discriminate in providing services due to race, color, national origin, or religious preference. All we ask, is for a positive attitude and the desire for change, in order to be admitted to our home. Our faith-based program is an 18-24 month independent living program with excellent program services that allow each resident and their child(ren) to recognize their self-worth and prepare them to reach their full potential. Our future home will be located in Lake County, Indiana.

Crown Point 1937-38. A rare 16mm film was found and restored to show an hour and half of film of Crown Point residents, schools, and businesses. The restored film is remarkably clear. The film was made by an Ohio firm as a fund raising project for the Tri-Kappa Sorority. The movie was filmed just 3 years after the escape of John Dillinger and 3 years before America’s entrance into World War II. The printed program names hundreds of CP residents and business and will be copied for you to read. When the film was restored a sound tract was added with some period music and narration. When people were photographed they were told to “move” instead of standing perfectly still. There were no televisions, no home movies and people had never viewed themselves in a moving picture. |

To build on our domestic manufacturing base, Congressman Visclosky has been an unwavering advocate for investing in Northwest Indiana’s infrastructure and opening up access to our lakeshore.
